The WeLL Program

The WeLL Program (Weight Loss for Life) was founded by
Dr. Harold Solomon, a national authority on hypertension. Today, the WeLL team includes Dr. Solomon, registered dietitians, medical assistants, and support staff. Although patients with a wide variety of medical issues and medically related nutrition problems are welcome, the WeLL Program was initially geared towards individuals with extreme obesity. Today it is estimated that 2/3 of adult Americans are currently overweight or obese. It is important that individuals find "the right match' when they are ready to lose weight. For some people, the WeLL Program approach is the right way for them. The WeLL Program diet plan begins with the use of a 100% protein shake diet OR a combination of protein shakes and foods (lean proteins and vegetables). This extreme approach gives individuals a chance to "detox" from the unhealthy diets they have been following and "begin anew." Many extremely obese patients not only "simply eat too much," but also have an addictive type relationship with processed foods, particularly simple carbohydrates. A short term use of protein shakes (and lean proteins/low-calorie vegetables), Can help people "break the cycle" and get back in touch with true hunger. After losing significant amounts of weight with such a plan, it is important that they remain in the process of weight management (and perhaps continued weight loss) until new, healthy behavioral and attitudinal habits become more automatic. After "graduating" from the WeLL Program, individuals then advance to "a regular healthy diet approach" and sign up for either nutrition counseling sessions or a nutrition coaching program.
